johnny quest thinks were sellouts

so, i was looking for upcoming shows at bogarts this summer and found this gem. that’s right… it’s reel big fish, less than jake, streetlight manifesto, and against all authority. sounds like a good show to me. also, in august, the warped tour hits riverbend. this looks good as well… i’d love to see bad religion live. the toasters, big d and the kids table, are gonna be there too, along with like 20 other bands.

who’s with me?

our house, in the middle of our street

May 24th, 2007 @ 11:12pm by brian

so i’m trying to decide if i want to buy a house or continue to rent apartments that i don’t like. i’ve been searching through the sibcy cline for a couple of hours (on a recomendation by artie). so, now my question is this…

where are the houses that i can afford to buy?

seriously. this is insane. i’m trying to find something nearby to work, so i select the area i want. ok, there are some options. next i set my price limit to $150k. everything goes away but 3 houses (i may be exaggerating at bit, but not much). what the crap. that’s $150k, that’s one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. i feel like i’m taking crazy pills. how am i going to be able to afford a house for $150k, let alone more than that? this makes my brain hurt.

maybe i’ll be living in this crappy apartment forever.

today is the greatest day I’ve ever known

May 23rd, 2007 @ 10:30pm by brian

today feels different. yesterday (and several days before) i felt angry. angry about working late. angry about gas prices and traffic jams. angry for many reasons and just angry in general. today, it’s like a 180-degree flip. what’s changed? i’m not sure… a good workout at the park? lunch with a good friend? less work-related stress? the season finale of lost? maybe a combination of all of them?

whatever the cause, i’m glad it happened. and i hope it stays around for a while.

she is the one named sailor moon

fighting evil by moonlight
winning love by daylight
never running from a real fight
she is the one named sailor moon.

yes, that is the sailor moon themesong. i’ve had the osaka popstar cover of it stuck in my head ever since i heard it while hitting the trail at winton woods park this evening. while i’m no music elitist like justin (can you tell by this track?), i liked this cd. other notable songs on todays playlist were moron brothers by nofx and jay-z’s encore.

in other news, i need to decide where i’ll be living starting august 1st. i got lease renewal forms in the mail today (actually, in a bag tied to my doorknob) from my apartment office. i was thinking of maybe going month-to-month, but maybe not at $100/month extra.

everybody’s workin’ for the weekend

May 21st, 2007 @ 9:42pm by brian

its monday night. it doesn’t really feel like it, though. after a wedding-filled saturday and after hours maintenance for a couple hours sunday and 2 hours tonight, i’m ready for a break. i can’t stop looking forward to the 3-day weekend ahead.

i’m thinking about taking part in a 5k-run/walk that some awesome people at dvine are planning. i’m feeling much more in shape than i did in the beginning of march (35lbs ago!!!). who knows, i might even “run” part of it. even if its only 10% running, its more that i would have done in the past. maybe it’s a start to something bigger, like bloody nipples at the next flying pig. who knows. :)

post 3… i think i’m about to break a record.

two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please

May 20th, 2007 @ 9:11pm by brian

this is the second post (two in one day!!!) in my semi-annual blog update… not sure how much longer i can keep up this pace. :)

thanks to encouragement by bragg, I went down to clifton to hang out with the people of d’vine tonight. as always, it was awesome. a community like that is definitely something i miss. I haven’t really had much since i moved out of the compound and stopped going to navs alumni. life around the the apartment is kinda boring because: a) it’s forest park… nothing happens here and b) I don’t have roommates to talk to since i’m living by myself. its great to hang out with people on the same mission as I am. i’m just mad at myself for being such a slacker and not going from november/december until last week. hopefully that doesn’t happen again. what’s next? maybe a small group or getting more involved.

and we’re back…

Dear Reader(s),

You may have noticed that some content had disappeared last month. During an blog ‘redesign’ I accidentally fubar-ed a couple of database tables that contained what some would call important information (at least wordpress, the software that this blog runs on, does). After several weeks (or minutes) of work, I restored the database to its former glory, sans a few spam comments. During the time of the missing posts, I was contemplating if i should restore them at all because they were not up to the strict quality guidelines that I have imposed upon myself for all posts on this blog. In the end, i decided that content from last year is better than not content at all (and that nobody reads this anyway, so it doesn’t really matter).

That is all.

I don’t like weddings. I don’t mind going to them. I don’t mind being in them. I don’t even mind renting a $70 (or in the case of Artie’s wedding, $150) tux for a 4 hour event. I seem to always fun at them. The thing that I don’t like is the way that I feel after I go to them.

I feel like Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell’s character in The 40 Year Old Virgin, which coincidently, HBO has been playing almost non-stop for the past week). Massive amounts of awkwardness. Yeah, that’s me. Lots of ‘I have no idea what I’m doing’. That’s me, too. Top that all off with more awkwardness.

That’s the cause of all my frustration…  Well., that’s over. :)

On a side note, another great new episode of House tonight. This show keeps getting better.

do you know how i know that you’re gay?

Just finished watching The Simpsons, eagerly awaiting the premier of Family Guy (after the not-so-good American Dad).

This weekend:

  • Friday night was hanging out at Dethloff’s new apartment with a bunch of peeps, followed by watching Tony, Sara, Dethloff, and Bethany eat Skyline and UDF ice cream at 1:30am.
  • Saturday included sleeping in, then going to the gym. After that, Mike’s bachelor party. It started Anthony’s Cigar Bar and Grille, which is awesome, followed by Tim Cavanagh at Go Bananas.
  • Sunday. Watched the Bengals @ KC game (WhoDey!). Visited the ‘rents. Then went down to Clifton to hang out at D’vine.

Lots of fun was had, making this a great weekend. I wish they were all this good but, I am glad that they all aren’t this busy :) Back to work tomorrow (and a new laptop on tuesday!!!).
